Join local writer and crime novelist Stephen Wade for a talk about his work as a writer in residence in UK prisons.

Stephen kept a journal of his time in different prisons and can share both the humorous side of prison life and some of the less pleasant aspects of incarceration. During his time inside, he was involved with drama presentations, magazine production, storytelling and life-writing sessions, responding to whatever kind of writing the prisoners wanted to try.

He will also read from his two poetry collections, ‘Stretch’ and ‘An angle from above’, share some archive writings from prison magazines, and give a potted history of prisoners and their writing.

In celebration of National Crime Reading Month, this is a fascinating insight into writing behind closed doors.
